A Short Poem About Grief and Triumph

Today being the 10 year anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center, I thought I should post a poem that I wrote about it. I love this country and I love its people. The human spirit, at its best, is the finest indicator that divinity exists in this universe.

despite the down

rays

of sunlight

dance dapple twinkle twist

up and up and up

despite the down

glittering brilliance

the path before

dances dapples twinkles twists

and still it stands tall

despite the down

slivers and speckles

crashes and dust

dance dapple twinkle twist

yet unconquered it stands

despite the down

in smoke and trembles

it finds the way

that dances dapples twinkles twists

not by grief’s burden bent

but in freedom’s yoke alive
